Frolic’s Haunt 2018 is cancelled due to weather.

We’re crushed, to put it lightly. We’ve been working every week since last November toward this year’s Haunt. We’ve made costumes, worked on our miniature village, created props, designed scenes, and did a million other tasks. Actors were trained and ready to go. Support staff were found. We did everything we needed to and we were all looking forward to it, just as I know our guests were.

But then heavy rains were predicted (80% chance of rain every hour we would be open). So we put together a backup plan of using large tents. It wouldn’t have been as good an experience, but at least it would still have allowed the event to go on.

But they’re now predicting winds of up to 45km/h Saturday evening as well as the rain. With winds like that, it’s unsafe to set up large tents, due to the risk of the wind picking them up and launching them. In addition, with the temperature expected to feel like -2, I can’t place our actors and staff in the situation of being cold and damp for four hours, or take any risks with our guests’ health.

As disappointing as it is, I’m responsible for the safety of my team and my guests, and putting on an event under these weather conditions would be unsafe. I’m so sorry to everyone who was looking forward to this experience. We’ll be back in 2019, and I hope we’ll see you then. <3
